/var/log/Creating Music and Why
DATE:2025.02.24
I never really learned how to compose music in any formal way. I actually did spend about a year in music school, but I didn’t learn much and ended up leaving because it just wasn’t for me.
I can’t remember exactly when I started making music. My first song might have been back in 1985 when I was in junior high. So, I’ve been creating music for about 40 years now, and I’m still at it! Making music isn’t my job; it’s just a hobby. That’s why I’m not a professional musician or artist.
Sometimes, I wonder why I keep doing it and why I haven’t given up.
I’ve realized it’s kind of like a diary for me.
There’s “almost” no theme; I just start creating when I feel like it. I don’t know how I manage to write, and some people seem to like it. It doesn’t really impact anyone since it’s just my diary, and maybe no one even knows what I wrote in it.
My songs are pretty much unknown because I don’t produce them. I actually tried a bit in the past but quickly gave up because I didn’t see any point or value in it for me. I never write music for anyone else; it’s my diary, so my songs haven’t been commercial successes.
But, just like people post blogs, tweets, or other stuff in public spaces, I want to share my diary notes on the internet too. I don’t care who listens to my diary; my goal isn’t to reach an audience.
I just want to write music and play “fretless” bass guitar because it’s so fun and relaxing! That’s been my goal since 1985, and I’m still doing it.
And I always want to say thank you if you happen to find my diary and listen to my songs… by accident! ;-)
