The Internet Feels… Smaller These Days, Doesn’t It?
It feels like the internet has gotten really small lately. Everything is so consolidated - you can find pretty much anything anywhere, and it’s all handled in the same way. It’s convenient, sure, but that sense of adventure we used to get when exploring the web? That’s totally gone.
Back in the day, it felt more underground. There was a lot of information that wasn’t verified, but people were able to evaluate it for themselves and it didn’t really cause a problem. Now, thanks to AI, it feels like everything could be intentionally misleading or even a complete fabrication. It’s scary how easy it is to create convincing fakes for scams or propaganda.
And the social media feeds… they’re all controlled by these weird algorithms, and you end up seeing a really biased view of the world. I don’t know if things were better back then, but it definitely feels like the internet has become a much narrower place. It’s kind of lonely and disappointing.
It’s also rare to find personal websites these days. So many of the older sites you remember are just… gone, showing a “404 Not Found” error. We hear a lot about “respecting diversity” now, but honestly, the internet felt more diverse back then.
There used to be so many websites with strong personalities, but now it feels like everything is polished and beautiful – all sleek designs. But honestly? Those designs all look pretty similar! It’s not really diverse at all.
So yeah, I find myself thinking about how much fun the old internet was. I really miss it!
Turns out, that early 2000s internet style is just my thing. I’m actually moving away from SNS and trying to do things the old-fashioned way. I know I’ll probably be pretty “hidden” and most people won’t even notice I’m around, but it feels so much more like… well, me.
