/var/log/Landed on Reaper

Frequently I was writing about Cubase stability issues here and, I totally fed up with it to keep using it. Since the early 90s, I became a Cubase user which was version 1 for Macintosh. I’m remembering that I installed Cubase on Macintosh IIci which was running with the Finder system 6.0.5. That’s one of my best old memories!
I changed to other DAWs such as Logic, Performer, Pro Tools, Live, Bitwig, Reason, and Reaper… then always back to Cubase, but I will NOT anymore.
I’ve decided on my main finally.
It’s Reaper.
I’m really tired of spending money to get the “bugfix” by upgrading to a new version. It’s like a “subscription” software, isn’t it? (Hello? I’ve been facing the GUI issue since Cubase 11 through 12! How long do I need to wait for fixing? 5 years? 10 years?)
I don’t need new “unwanted” features and the UI theme is darker than before, so “funny” cheapo looks like a toy. :-(
I don’t want to customize/configure my PC for just one specific application because my computer is not for only Cubase but for daily usage.
I don’t want to have headaches for choosing a CPU, Graphics board, and blah blah blah. :-|
I just want to do “music” on the computer!
I know I need to maintain the PC such as updating OS, drivers, cabling, and sometimes fixing an issue as necessary, but for using Cubase, too many things to do than any other DAW. It’s really a waste of time and money to me.
How about Reaper?
I know that’s the downside as well for UI looking but at least I can change it if I want to use an old theme for example, I love the Reaper 5 theme and I can use the same one on Reaper 6 (now they’ve released 7 which still OK using Reaper 5 theme!). Many people say “The learning curve is one of the issues Reaper has”. But it’s the same for any other DAW. I was using many DAWs and I had no problem shifting to Reaper.
What’s going on Steinberg… I loved Cubase for over 20 years but I finally say goodbye.
I already have moved to Reaper and using Reason Rack Plugin which is my go-to synth, and some VST plugins.
By the way, so far I already completed 6 songs with Reaper for the new 17th album. I think I will release the new 17th album when I reach composing around 10 songs. Stay tuned!
p.s. Please consider what “evaluation” means. Reaper is NOT freeware!
